DR. NELSON'S PROFESSIONAL BACKGROND
(see curriculum vitae for details of my education & experience)
WELCOME🌈
Thank-you for visiting my website.
I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist & Marriage, Family Therapist.
I specialize in:
Depth Analytical Psychotherapy,
Mindfulness Cognitive Behavior Therapy,
Physiological Self Regulation,
Couples & Family Counseling
Depth Analytical Psychotherapy
assists people who are interested in exploring the deeper levels of their psyche. This approach to self awareness & growth is based on the work of Carl G. Jung, M.D. and is an exciting journey into the unconscious as one that peers beyond the ego into the personal and collective unconscious.
This process includes recognizing archetypes that influence
choice and behavior.
This exploration also involves finding the value and meaning of day-dreams and night-dreams in order gain insight and develop ones potential.
Mindfulness Cognitive Behavior Therapy,
focuses on understanding and solving problems & situations affected by the way one thinks, feels and acts.
In addition to being in relationship with my clients I use practical approaches such as Insight Oriented Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness,
Physiological Self Regulation includes:
Biofeedback, Breath Training, Self Regulation Meditation, Somatic Awareness, EMDR, Brain Wave Entrainment, & when appropriate, hypnotherapy.
I am certified to include biofeedback and other self-regulation approaches for
decreasing emotional & physical pain.
Couples & Family Counseling:
I am an excellent couples and family counselor with over 40 years of experience.
I have directly experienced people involved in a variety of life experiences and the challenges.
My academic background includes an undergraduate degree in Philosophy & Psychology, a Master's degree in Humanistic & Jungian Psychology & a Doctorate degree in Cognitive Behavior Therapy.
I have worked and taught in State Mental Hospitals (before they were closed), in County Mental Hospitals, at the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA; for Kaiser Permanente and at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla. I have developed and provided Stress Managment Programs for management and line personnel in large corporations I have met with people in private couseling collaborations for 40+ years. I learned more than I can put into words from all those experiences. The situations and the people I met gave me direct experiences that were in some ways more valuable than my formal education.
Currently I meet with individuals to collaborate in managing the difficulties in their lives and/or to decide how they want to create for their future. Together we do everything possible to resolve challenges and to enhance what matters most to them.
I encourage physical, emotional, and mental and self-care and development. When appropriate we may explore spiritual development. The approaches mentioned above can lead the way to a deeper discovery of skills every individual can learn, or re-learn, to create the best possible life.
I have been intuitively interested in people for as long as I can remember. This quality contributes an important element to my formal education that is not taught in graduate school. It is found in deep understanding, intelligent strategizing and compassionate acceptance of every person with whom I meet in my consulting room.
