ANXIETY and STRESS

Anxiety is a form of fear Stress is a form of overwhelm & exhaustion.
When you are anxious you tend to feel internal and external tension.
You may feel short of breath, your heart rate might increase, your stomach may ache and your muscles may be tense and painful; at the same time you may be plagued by negative thoughts and expectations.
At times you might feel overwhelmed and that you can't handle ordinary life stress let alone extra-ordinary stressors.  You might feel vulnerable.
You might feel uncertain, uneasy, sometimes irritable, tense & edgy.
You may have a hard time relaxing and enjoying people and things that used to bring you pleasure. You might feel jittery or panicky.
You may feel confused, have jumbled thoughts, poor memory, be indecisive, forgetful.
You may make errors you would not usually make.
A moderate to high amount of motor tension such as trembling, tightness, twitching, feeling shaky, with a stiff neck and/or back.  Muscle aches, restlessness and fatigue are not uncommon.

All of us experience all or some of these feelings at certain times or in certain situations.
It is the degree to which the Frequency, Intensity, and/or the duration of any of the above symptoms interfere with  our ability to function and to find some enjoyment in our lives that is cause for concern.
There are physical, emotional, mental and even spiritual factors that contribute to anxiety that need to be addressed as part of a treatment plan.

Anxiety can be managed by learning what causes those feelings and practicing skills to deal with them when they
interfere with your quality of life.
