FAMILY COUNSELING

Sometimes disagreements, misunderstandings and feelings of betrayal happen within a family.
There are many possible causes.
Some family members may be over stressed or lack the skills or ability to express love and affection.

Past or present trauma, physical, emotional or mental abuse of one or more members of a family or to the entire family is a leading cause of couple and family struggles.
In some families subtance use or abuse is a serious problem that causes conflict and a breakdown in trust, caring and communication.
Some families face the challenge of serious physical and/or mental illness of one or more members of their family.
Some families have not learned skills to manage developmental challenges in both themselves and in their children.

Often  ineffective communication skills result in arguments, conflict, and/or physical violence.
When any of these causes become  patterns of disrespect and/or anger, feelings of loss and/or lonliness,
irritation and/or increasing anger, hurt and/or fear,
the well being of all involved is threatened.

I will do my absolute best to help you help and heal yourselves.
Within family counseling I assist each member to be heard, to understand what others want to say, and to make sure each person feels heard and understood.  Then counseling continues on to figure out what will work to bring more harmony into the family.
Because I am not part of the family, I can remain emotionally objective and  encourage each member of the family to communicate both their concerns and their caring for each other as they work together to rebuild healthy relationships within the family.
